چکیده

Cedar wood oil is ranked the tenth essential oil in the world, it can be obtained from fir wood waste, and high added value Cedar series perfumes are obtained from Cedar wood oil by chemical processing. Their aroma is very unique and cannot be replaced. At present, the cedar wood resources are dwindling; a serious influence had taken place in the flavor and fragrance industry. Study found that essential oil is very rich in fir wood waste; cedar wood oil can be replaced completely with the fir oil to be used in perfume industry according to the aroma and chemical composition. The fir oil was extracted from fir root and its processing residue by the steam distilling and retorting methods. The retorting essential oil, wood vinegar, wood tar, charcoal and combustible gases, were obtained from fir waste by retorting. The main perfumes such as Cedrol, Cedrene, Thujopsene, etc. were made from the oil by refining and isolating, next to chemical processing, dozens of cedar series perfumes with high added value, such as acetyl cedrene, cedrol methyl ether, etc. were synthesized.

Correlation of carbon isotope ratios in the cellulose and wood extractives of Douglas-fir

Cellulose is usually isolated from the other components of plant material for analysis of carbon stable isotope ratios (dC). However, many studies have shown a strong correlation between whole-wood and cellulose dC values, prompting debate about the necessity of cellulose extraction for tree-ring studies. The dC values were measured in whole wood, extractive-free wood, purified cellulose, aceto...

Release of terpenes from fir wood during its long-term use and in thermal treatment.

Building structures made from fir wood are often attacked by wood-destroying insects for which the terpenes it contains serve as attractants. One of the possibilities for extending the lifetime of structures is to use older wood with a lower content of terpenes and/or thermally modified wood. The study evaluated the levels of terpenes in naturally aged fir wood (108, 146, 279, 287 and 390 years...

Investigation on mechanical properties of composite made of sawdust and high density polyethylene

In this research, the effect of wood species and particle size on mechanicalproperties of wood plastic composites (WPC) made of fir (Abies alba) and beech(Fagus orientalis L.) sawdust and high density polyethylene (HDPE) wereinvestigated. Wood plastic composite (WPC) were made with 30% HDPE in abatch process at 185˚C, at two particle sizes of 40 mesh and 80 mesh. Maleicanhydride polypropylene (...

Effects of Silviculture and Genetics on Branch/Knot Attributes of Coastal Pacific Northwest Douglas-Fir and Implications for Wood Quality—A Synthesis

Douglas-fir is the most commercially important timber species in the US Pacific Northwest due to its ecological prevalence and its superior wood attributes, especially strength and stiffness properties that make it highly prized for structural applications. Its economic significance has led to extensive establishment and management of plantations over the last few decades. Cultural treatments a...

Characteristics of heat-treated Turkish pine and fir wood after ThermoWood processing.

The Finnish wood heat treatment technology ThermoWood, was recently introduced to Turkey. Data about the mechanical and physical properties of Turkish wood species are important for industry and academia. In this study two industrially important Turkish wood species, pine (Pinus nigraArnold.) and fir (Abies bornmülleriana Matf.) were heat-treated using the ThermoWood process. Pine and fir sampl...
